Choose a described track during playback

Turn audio descriptions off

If narration is playing and you no longer want it, either choose the standard audio track from the title's Audio menu or return to Settings > Accessibility > Audio Descriptions and set Prime Video to Off. Changing the audio track affects what you hear; it does not disable Fire TV's separate spoken-menu screen reader.

Audio descriptions and VoiceView are different

Why the Audio Descriptions track may be missing

A missing option is not always a device fault. Check the title and context before changing device settings:

  1. Confirm that the title details identify an audio-description track.
  2. Open the audio list and check the available languages; a described track may exist only in a different language.
  3. Try another title that is explicitly marked as supporting audio description.
  4. Confirm that the Fire TV software and Prime Video app are current.
  5. Remember that Amazon says live events currently do not provide audio-description tracks.

Other streaming apps can use their own accessibility menus and catalogues. The Fire TV Prime Video preference does not guarantee that an unrelated app follows the same controls.

If a listed track does not play

When an Audio Descriptions track appears but narration does not begin, exit playback and reopen the title, then select the labelled track again. If the problem continues, restart the Fire TV device and check for a system update. Test one more title known to offer the feature so you can tell whether the issue follows one programme or the device. Avoid erasing the device for a catalogue- or title-specific problem.
